Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is a government sponsored scholarship started by the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The main purpose for which the scholarship was implemented was to encourage students to undertake basic science, engineering and medicine as the primary path for molding their career. This is an ongoing scholarship allowing students to pursue a better career in basic sciences with government sponsored funding. Under the scholarship program, the much needed boost is given to students with talent and zeal who want their careers to prevail in the field of science and research. The candidates/ aspirants should be in class 11 or 1st year in any undergraduate program, to name a few are: B.Sc., B.S.,B.Stat. B.Math, M.Sc., M.Sc. in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Benefits of the scholarship
Administered by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, the scholarship primarily functions to identify schools and collages which are sheltering the best talents. So, once the scholarship program identifies some innovative students with a fiery ambition and unmatched talent, the scholarship sponsors their education till the Pre Ph.D level. The scholarship provides monthly fellowship grant of Rs. 5,000 and annual contingency grant of Rs. 20, 000. This amount is given to the candidates during the 1st to 3rd year of their B.Sc., B.S., B.Stat., B.Math and integrated M.Sc. For students who are in 4th and 5th year of the integrated M.Sc. and MS courses, they will get Rs.7, 000 as monthly funding and annual contingency funding of Rs. 28, 000.
Renewal of the Scholarship
The provision of renewal of KVPY scholarship is possible but the candidates must see that they are able to live up to the expected standards that are sought in the scholarship. Under the guidelines of the scholarship program, the possibility of the renewal and re-evaluation is only possible if the candidates are able to score 60% marks in their academics.
Online Application and Process
The KVPY process of application has been made totally online. The students who are wishful of this scholarship have to fill in the application latest by August 30. They are required to simply download the scholarship form from the official website of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. At the time of filling up the application form, it is important for the candidates to have the following documents scanned and in the process of being uploaded:
- There should be a scanned image of the photograph and the signature of the photograph.
- A copy of mark-sheet and qualifying examination certificate has to be submitted.
- In case if the applicant has applied for caste based participation, in that case, a copy of caste certificate copy in a prescribed proforma has to be submitted.
- A medical certificate of the prescribed authority for PwD candidates.
